Hopsworks, an artificial intelligence infrastructure firm co-founded by Irishman Jim Dowling, has raised $6.5m (€6m) from financial backers to expand its commercial operations and footprint in the US.

The company, which is based in Stockholm, said the recent surge of interest in AI had helped get the funding over the line in a challenging environment where investors had grown cautious about the slowing global economy and sliding valuations for technology companies.
